The host is America’s most well known outdoorsman. He was the fourth living member inducted into the California Outdoors Hall of Fame. In 2015, Tom was awarded as the nation’s only four-time winner of the President’s Award from Outdoors Writers Association of America as the national outdoor writer of the year. In 2013 and 2014, he won first place for the nation’s “Adventure Story of the Year,” from the Outdoor Writers Association of America. His blog with the San Francisco Chronicle/SFGate.com, Tom Stienstra Outdoors, was the No. 1 outdoors blog in the nation in 2012, including 1.5 million views of a single blog, “Hetch Hetchy: Walking with the Ghost of Muir.” In 2009, he won first place for best outdoors column in America. He is the outdoors writer for the San Francisco Chronicle and outdoors editor for CBS-Radio/San Francisco.

Tom has hiked 25,000 miles, caught world-record fish, led dozens of expeditions, taken part in all phases of the outdoor experience, and is a pilot certified to fly complex, high-powered aircraft. He hosted the “Great Outdoors with Tom Stienstra,” which aired on CBS/CW in San Francisco-San Jose and Sacramento. The show “Land of Smoke” won first place for best outdoor recreation show in America. In 2014, Tom and Jim Schlosser won first place, best outdoor video, Outdoor Writers Association of California. Tom is the nation’s top-selling author of outdoor guidebooks. His books have sold more than one million copies.
